Christopher R. Sforzo, M.D. is a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon, double board-certified and fellowship-trained in hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder surgery, dedicated to serving patients across Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

Dr. Sforzo offers the latest regenerative treatments, helping many patients eliminate the need for surgery. When surgery is necessary, he employs minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic carpal tunnel release, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and procedures for the wrist and elbow using arthroscopy. His proficiency extends to intricate reconstructive and replacement surgeries for complex upper extremity conditions including reverse shoulder and hand joint replacements. He was the first surgeon to perform an endoscopic carpal tunnel release at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.

Dr. Sforzo attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. He earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine with honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Florida/Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and remained there to complete his Hand and Shoulder Fellowship training under the tutelage of Paul Dell, M.D., Larry Chidgey, M.D. and Tom Wright, M.D.

Dr. Sforzo is the official orthopedic surgeon and hand surgeon to the Sarasota Orchestra. He is a special consultant for the IMG Academy and the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy and the IMG Football Combine. He also serves as special consultant for Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) players and staff. Additionally, he serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at the Florida State University College of Medicine, Sarasota Campus.

Dr. Sforzo, his wife Terri Vitale, and his children, Sydney and Ryan, all place a strong emphasis on philanthropy and giving back to the community. He is the medical director and team physician for the Out-of-Door Academy and Riverview High School. Dr. Sforzo has served as a trustee to local foundations, including Plymouth Harbor, The Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast and local lacrosse organizations. Additionally, he is the consulting physician for the youth and adult tennis at Longwood Run Country Club, Laurel Oak Country Club, Lakewood Ranch Country Club, The Meadows Country Club, Longboat Key Country Club, Venice Country Club and Cascades Country Club. His caring attitude is making a positive impact throughout the community.
