Dr. Christopher Sforzo Speaks at the IMG Academy Athletic Trainer Growth Summit

Dr. Christopher Sforzo was invited to speak at the recent IMG Academy Athletic Trainer Growth Summit, held at IMG Academy on August 17, 2022. Present were over 20 of IMG’s Athletic Trainers and Sports Conditioning coaches, from all sports including football, tennis, lacrosse, baseball and basketball. Dr. Sforzo’s one hour lecture focused on the on-field assessment of upper extremity injuries, their initial stabilization as well as potential short and long-term treatment (including surgery), along with return to play guidelines and expectations. It was a very interactive talk and questions were asked and answered throughout the discussion. Acute injuries such as ACJ sprains, scaphoid fractures, and clavicle fractures were discussed, along with technical pearls on how and when to reduce shoulder, elbow, and finger dislocations.

Dr. Sforzo has been a consultant to IMG Academy for over 18 years, and he and his practice are the official team physicians for Riverview High School and the Out of Door Academy. Dr. Sforzo’s fund of knowledge is extensive in this area, as not only is he a fellowship-trained upper extremity surgeon, but played college lacrosse at the University of Notre Dame, coached club lacrosse, and has two children who currently play division one sports (tennis and lacrosse) at Notre Dame. Thus, he understands athletics from many perspectives an uses this knowledge and expertise to treat his many patients from a very unique and comprehensive perspective.
