Some conditions like tumors or direct injuries to the brain or spinal cord are best handled by a neurologist who specializes in the brain and spinal cord. Other injuries which come from deterioration of the bones of the spine may be best served by an orthopedic spine surgeon because they focus on the stability of the spine and the biomechanics of the patient. Some conditions can be treated by both types of surgeons, but it is important to choose someone that has expertise and commonly treats your diagnosed condition.
